Kansas City Chiefs RB Damien Williams has chosen to opt out of the 2020 NFL season due to health concerns from the current COVID-19 pandemic.
He is the most fantasy relevant skill player to skip the season to date.
Fantasy Impact
The last time we saw Damien Williams he was putting up a MVP-type performance in Super Bowl LIV, and now the next time we will see him will be in the 2021 season. I respect anyone who decides to opt out this year due to health concerns for them and their loved ones. Safety should be the priority for everyone at this time.
In terms of fantasy football, this move gives an obvious boost to the Chiefs' 1st round draft pick, RB Clyde Edwards-Helaire out of LSU. He is currently being drafted #35 overall in Bestball10s as the 15th RB, making him an end of the 3rd round pick. Expect his ADP to move back to where it was right after the NFL Draft, with was right around the end of the 2nd round. There are still reservations for all of the rookies given the very limited time they will have to get acclimated to the NFL prior to week 1, but barring injury, CEH has a floor of RB12 this season.
This move gives a big boost to 2nd-year RB Darwin Thompson, who was a popular target prior to the signing of Lesean McCoy last year. Damien Williams has a current ADP at the end of the 6th round. Darwin Thompson shouldn't be drafted at the spot, however. Anytime after the 10th round is a safe spot to take Darwin Thompson, preferably as an RB4. Also, be on the lookout for the Chiefs possibly going after Free Agent RB Devonta Freeman.
