DraftHustle 2023 Fantasy Football Draft Manifesto: Wide Receivers

Fantasy drafts are starting to ramp up as we get closer to the start of the 2023 NFL season. Having done over 100 bestball drafts so far this season, I have a pretty good idea on how I will draft in my season long leagues, as well as what the good and bad values are for all your favorite players. Over the next few days, I will be giving my overall strategy and other bits of advice on drafting the 4 primary Fantasy Football positions in 2023. Draft Strategy

The Fantasy Football community has gone WR crazy so far this season. 15 WRs are being drafted in the first 3 rounds, which is very different from years past. This may be a result of very few elite workhorse RBs who aren’t either in their age prime or threatening to not play for their respective team. I prefer to have at least 1 WR in the first 2 rounds, because I do not like the WRs that are in rounds 3-4 of ADP, which could be considered a “WR Dead Zone”. The Terry McLaurin’s, Calvin Ridley’s, and Christian Watson are being pushed up draft boards, and I would rather pass on them and draft the RBS that are dropping down boards.

Later in drafts, I like to build up my WR depth. According to ADP, WR30 all the way to WR60 could be considered one giant tier due to the way the league passes so much now, so I like to grab 3-4 WRs in this range. I am a proponent of stacking, drafting QBS and pass catchers on the same team, so the WRs I take in this range are usually who I stack with my QBs. For my fellow auction drafters, there will ALWAYS be viable $1 WRs late in the draft so after you get 4 solid WRs, wait until the end to load up on bench WRs for $1. Don’t be afraid to spend the extra $5-$8 on an elite guy early on.

How Many WRs can finish as WR1? – 8

Justin Jefferson all the way to A.J. Brown in my rankings can finish as the Wr1 overall.

I prefer to draft ____ of my top ___ WRs? 4 of my top 34

I have Rashod Bateman as my 34th ranked WR and he has an ADP of WR54 in the 12th round, so this is easy to accomplish for me in my drafts.

Where do I draft the first rookie WR? Jordan Addison in Round 8

Jordan Addison landed in a great situation for fantasy. The Vikings will pass the ball a ton, and Addison will be involved early and often.

Favorite WR after round 10 (according to FantasyPros ADP)? Rashod Bateman, BAL

The #1 WR for Lamar Jackson will destroy his current ADP if he stays healthy.

Breakout – Chris Olave, NO

After finishing WR25 in his rookie season, Olave will finish as a top 12 WR with the addition of Derek Carr.

Lottery Ticket – Isaiah Hodgins, NYG

The best outside receiving option for Daniel Jones will easily outperform his current WR78 ADP.

Bust – Tee Higgins, CIN

Tee Higgins is my least favorite of the elite team WR2s. I won’t draft much of him in round 3.
