Gronk Smashing his way back in the NFL: Joins Tom Brady in Tampa

Updated: Apr 21, 2020

According to reports and sources, Rob Gronkowski is expected to come out of retirement and be traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The Patriots are sending Gronk along with a 7th round pick to the Bucs in exchange for a 4th round pick. The trade is basically a lock, pending a physical.

Fantasy Insight The NFL has truly become a year-round sport. This blockbuster deal comes just 2 days before the NFL draft. Assuming Gronk passes his physical, he would be expected to be the Bucs starting TE, pushing O.J. Howard to the back burner. It will be interesting to see how he fits into the Tampa Bay offense, given how little the TE has been utilized in the Bruce Arians offense in the past. I would draft Gronk as a high end TE2 for the time being. O.J. Howard and Cameron Brate are off my draft board until further notice. Since Gronk wasn’t officially on the Patriots’ roster, not much changes for them from a fantasy stand point.
