According to multiple reports, former New England Patriots QB Tom Brady has agreed to sign with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. The reports are that the deal will be around $30 million a year.
This is the beginning of a new era in the NFL. The biggest winner in this signing is Tom Brady, given the massive upgrade in the quality of weapons the Bucs have. No disrespect to Julian Edelman and N’Keal Harry, but Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Cameron Brate, and even O.J. Howard, are just better. Tom Brady finished as the #12 QB in Fantasy points last year, and I expect that to be his floor come draft season. There are also rumors that Brady wants to play with Antonio Brown as well. If that were to somehow happen, he would instantly jump to a top 6 Fantasy QB.
Mike Evans and Chris Godwin both maintain their top 12 WR status with the Brady signing. Hopefully Bucs coach Bruce Arians will be open to using his TE more, given Brady’s past success with TEs. For now, don’t draft O.J Howard as a starter, but keep him on your watch list.
On the Patriots’ side, everyone who you considered draft-worthy gets a downgrade. If Jarrett Stidham turns out to be the Patriots starting QB, I will not be owning a single Patriot player in fantasy, Julian Edelman included. If they were to sign someone like Andy Dalton or trade for Cam Newton, my mind will change.
