The Cook has a New Kitchen: Russ Westbrook Traded to Denver

Russell Wilson traded to the Denver Broncos

The Superbowl may have ended almost a month ago, but the NFL season never truly ends. In the first blockbuster trade of the 2022 season, long-time Seattle Seahawk QB Russell Wilson was traded to the Denver Broncos, along with a 4th round pick, to the Seattle Seahawks received TE Noah Fant, QB Drew Lock, DL Shelby Harris, 2 1st round picks, two 2nd round picks and a 5th round pick.

Fantasy Insight

On the Denver side, the Broncos receive an obvious major boost on offense as they instantly upgrade their QB to a future Hall of Famer. They didn't have to give any of their top 3 WRs, who also receive major boosts in value. Jerry Jeudy, Courtland Sutton, and Tim Patrick all have top 36 WR floors in any given week, with top 12 upside. Noah Fant leaving opens up the starting TE role to the athletic Albert Okwuebunam, who will be a popular breakout candidate at the position in 2022. Keeping in mind they also have 2nd year RB Javonte Williams in the backfield, it's hard not to think this has the makings of a top 5 offense on paper.

On the Seattle side, assuming Seattle doesn't use the draft picks they received to get an elite QB to replace Russell Wilson, the Seahawk offense takes a major blow. DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett go from top 12 WRs in fantasy to WR3s at best with Drew Lock at the helm. Noah Fant now becomes undraftable at the TE position. The lone brightside i can see is that Pete Carroll will have no choice but to run the ball all game as he loves to do, making whoever they decide to be their starting RB (Chris Carson, Rashaad Penny, or someone else) in 2022 a very valuable commodity.
