Week 3 Waiver Wire Report

Week 2 is finally over! None of those points will carry over to week 3, so it’s time to find the guys who will score you points in week 2. These are my favorite players to target.

(Based on players who are owned in 67% or less of Yahoo fantasy leagues)

QB

Mitchell Trubisky (8%) – CHI vs Falcons

Mitch Trubisky cooled off in week 2, but he gets the magic elixir in the form of the Atlanta Falcons defense in week 3. Expect a shootout, which will allow Mitch to put up decent numbers, both rushing and passing.

Gardner Minshew (33%) – JAC vs Dolphins

Minshew-mania continued again in week2 as Gardner, as he threw for 339 yards and 3 TDs against the Titans. The Jaguars face the Dolphins on Thursday night, and the Dolphins have been carved up all season. Minshew will be a solid low end QB1 play this week

Other options

Ryan Tannehill (46%) – TEN vs Vikings

Justin Herbert (4%) – LAC vs Panthers

RB

Mike Davis (8%) – CAR vs Chargers

Christian McCaffrey suffered the dreaded high ankle sprain in week 2, putting him on the shelf for at least 4 weeks. Mike Davis was able to catch 8 passes for 74 yards as the fill in. Prioritize Davis in your waiver wire adds and be prepared to spend at least 35% of your FAAB budget if you are in desperate need of RBs in week 3.

Jerrick McKinnon (26%) – SF vs NYG

The 49ers were hit especially hard by injuries in week 2, losing their top 2 RBs. Jerrick McKinnon is finally healthy and appears to be the next man up in terms of RB usage in San Francisco. Expect about 17-20 touches, which should lead to solid fantasy production against the porous New York Giants defense.

Joshua Kelley (40%) – LAC vs Panthers

Kelley led the Chargers backfield with 23 carries and had 3 catches as well. He has officially taken over the Melvin Gordon role in the Chargers offense, and he will continue to get plenty of work. The Chargers will be able to get a lead on the Panthers in week 3, and lean on Kelley in the run game.

Other Options

Devonta Freeman (15%) – NYG vs 49ers

Darrell Henderson (34%) – LAR vs Bills

WR

Russell Gage (23%) – ATL vs Bears

The Falcons can’t stop anyone on defense, which means they will have to pass a lot to compete. Russell Gage is averaging 80 receiving yards a game in 2020, and with Julio Jones hobbled, he will continue to see a steady dose of targets.

Allen Lazard (47%) – GB vs Saints

Davante Adams injured his hamstring in week 2, and is currently uncertain about his status in week 3. Allen Lazard earned the trust of Aaron Rodgers in the off-season, and he will get opportunity to be the #1 WR for Rodgers should Adams have to miss time.

Curtis Samuel (27%) – CAR vs Chargers

Christian’s McCaffrey’s high usage means there will be plenty of opportunity for others while he is out. Curtis Samuel will receive a slight bump in targets, and will also get some backfield carries as well.

Other Options

Michael Pittman (15%) – IND vs Jets

Tre’Quan Smith (15%) – NO vs Packers

Corey Davis (42%) – TEN vs Vikings

TE

Logan Thomas (32%) – WAS vs Browns

Logan Thomas was 2nd on the Football Team in targets with 9, so the opportunity is there, even though he wasn’t very productive. He should have a better time against the Browns secondary in week 3.

Mo Allie-Cox (1%) – IND vs Jets

Mo Allie-Cox lit up the Vikings for 111 yards and a score in week 2. He is more explosive and more athletic than Jack Doyle, so his role should stay consistent even when Doyle gets healthy. Expect the dominance to continue against the Jets.

Other Options

Dalton Schultz (3%) – DAL vs Seahawks

Jordan Reed (7%) – SF vs Giants

D/ST

Indianapolis Colts (44%) – vs Jets

The Jets offense is absolutely pathetic so, streaming the defense that plays them weekly is an excellent strategy. The Colts should be able to rack up sacks and turnovers in this matchup.

Tampa Bay Buccaneers (51%) – vs Broncos

The Broncos lost both their starting QB and best WR in week 2. They were desperate enough to sign Blake Bortles on Tuesday, meaning Lock will be out a while. Whether Bortles or Driskell gets the week 3 start, the Bucs DS/T should thrive.

Other Options

Los Angeles Chargers (32%) – vs Panthers

Cleveland Browns (17%) – vs Redskins
